weknowtime.com is operated by John O’Brien, based in Austin, Texas, United States of America, For any privacy question, contact weknowtimeblog@gmail.com.

Information you give me directly

Email address. If you subscribe to the newsletter, I store your email address in order to send you the posts and picks you signed up for. You can unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of it, and that removes you from the list.

Contact form submissions. If you use the contact form, I receive whatever you put in it, including your email address and message, so that I can reply.

I do not sell, rent, or trade this information. Ever.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, this one records basic technical information when you visit:

  • IP address (often truncated or anonymized by the analytics tool)
  • Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
  • Pages you visited, how long you stayed, and which page sent you here
  • Approximate location, at roughly the city or region level, derived from IP

I use this in aggregate to see which posts are useful and which are not. I do not use it to identify individual readers.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. This site and the services it uses may set:

  • Essential cookies, needed for the site to function.
  • Analytics cookies, which help me count visitors and see which pages get read.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies, set by retailers when you click an affiliate link, so they know the visit came from here. These are set and controlled by the retailer, not by me.
  • Advertising cookies, if and when this site runs display advertising.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics and advertising cookies will not break the site.

Affiliate links

This site contains affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer may set a cookie identifying the referral. If you then make a purchase, I may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Third-party services I use

  • WPX Hosting — website hosting and server logs

WPX has its own privacy policy governing the data it handles.

This site does not currently use third-party analytics, email marketing,
advertising, or comment services. This section will be updated if that changes.

How long information is kept

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept for 24 months and then deleted. Analytics data is retained according to the provider’s default retention period. Server logs are typically kept for a short period by the host.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the personal information I hold about you
  • Ask me to correct information that is wrong
  • Ask me to delete your information
  • Opt out of marketing emails at any time
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (I do not sell personal information)
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have these rights under the GDPR, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are in California, you have these rights under the CCPA/CPRA.

If you are in Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have comparable rights under that state’s law.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and I do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information here, email me and I will delete it.

Security

I take reasonable measures to protect the information handled by this site, including HTTPS encryption. No website can promise perfect security, and I won’t pretend otherwise.

International visitors

This site is operated from the United States of America. If you visit from elsewhere, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States of America, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, I will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
